Super Evil Megacorp
Super Evil Megacorp is an award-winning game studio and producer of the hit mobile title Vainglory. As a senior editor on the editorial team, he was responsible for virtually all written content in the game including in-game copywriting, marketing campaigns, update notes, press releases, blog posts, guides, and coverage of esport events.
The challenge with working on a product like Vainglory is that its player base consists mainly of detail-driven, “hardcore”multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) gamers. Content needed to be up-to-date, accurate, and in the style that the founders had set forth.
Highlights:
World Championship 2016 viewership hit top 4 on Twitch.
Daily sales record for in-app purchase broken twice during tenure.
Authored monthly column called “Squid Ink” that got new players up to speed with an aspect of Vainglory’s gameplay.
Woebot
Woebot is a mental health chat bot designed to be a friendly resource for people who want someone to talk to. While not a replacement for therapy, the bot was designed to teach people cognitive behavioral therapy skills. The challenge was to create a personality for the chat bot that would be fun and interesting, but not judgmental or dull. The solution: make a sweet, clumsy, and well-intentioned robot that treats the other appliances in his office as sentient, feeling entities. My main task was to show this personality through multi-branched dialogue, quizzes, and stories.
Highlights:
Retention improvement: Retention of users rose 10% for the first 14 days of lessons.
Quality improvement: Overall lesson retention rate rose to an average of 94%.
Production increased: Wrote 30 lessons in 30 days, 3X previous pace.
Oversaw QA testing and user interviews, averaging 4 interviews a week.
